IEC/EN 61340-5-1:2016 This standard describes a test method for determining the electrical resistance of footwear; specifies the requirements for electrostatics and deals with the protection of electronic devices from electrostatic phenomena. A build-up of electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage sensitive electronic components or cause fire hazards when handling solvents and other flammable materials. Items certified for use in ESD areas are made of materials that prevent the build-up of electrostatic charges, allowing them to dissipate to ground.
